Blekinge Institute of Technology, Halmstad University, Kristianstad University, Linnæus University, Lund University, Malmö University, and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences have a long-standing collaboration on several areas of education, PhD programmes, research, administrative functions and external engagement. Our seven universities have joined forces to form a network of Universities in South Sweden. The purpose is to achieve higher quality, better utilisation of resources and improved contacts with industry and society, benefiting students and universities as well as society at large. In this capacity, Universities in South Sweden makes a difference and contributes to even better and stronger regions in southern Sweden.
Together the universities in Lärosäten Syd have around 71 000 full time students, 15 000 employees and around SEK 18 billion in revenue (figures from 2019). This corresponds to around 25 % of the Swedish higher education sector in these areas. The universities’ students and employees are from all over the world.
Two of our universities are part of the European Universities initiative: Lund University in EUGLOH – European University Alliance for GLObal Health, and Linnæus University in EUniWell – European University for Well-Being.
Our universities
Lund University
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. The University is based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund is the most popular study location in Sweden. The University offers one of the broadest ranges of programmes and courses in Scandinavia, based on cross-disciplinary and cutting-edge research. The University has a distinct international profile, with partner universities in 70 countries.
Lund University has an annual turnover of SEK 8.8 billion, of which close to 60% goes to research. Our research is characterised by both breadth and strength.
Linnæus University
Linnaeus University is a university in the Småland region of Sweden, with two locations in the cities Växjö and Kalmar. You can study different subjects within arts and humanities, health and life sciences, the social sciences, the natural sciences, technology, and business and economics.
Research at Linnaeus University is of high international quality. Particularly prominent is the research carried out within our cutting-edge research environments – our Linnaeus University Centres. Within these centres, everything from ecology and evolution to discrimination and integration, postcolonialism, intermediality, bioscience, and big data is being studied.
Malmö University
Malmö University is characterised by global engagement, community involvement, and a multidisciplinary, challenge based approach to education, research and collaboration. We are an urban, innovative University in the heart of Malmö offering a wide variety of English-taught programmes at both bachelor’s and master’s level.
Malmö University has five research centres, which between them span fields in life sciences, humanities, health and technology, all with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research.
Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)
SLU is a world-class international university with research, education and environmental assessment within the sciences for sustainable life. Its principal sites are in Alnarp, Umeå and Uppsala, but activities are also conducted at research stations, experimental parks and educational establishments throughout Sweden.
We bring together people who have different perspectives, but they all have one and the same goal: to create the best conditions for a sustainable, thriving and better world.
Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH)
BTH has a distinctive focus on the digitalisation of society and sustainability. As an institute of technology, we have a responsibility and an opportunity to make our contribution to both regional and national competitiveness and to global sustainability.
Despite its relatively small size, BTH has a great deal of research. In some fields, software engineering and strategic sustainable development, we are world leaders.
Both of BTH’s campuses – in Karlskrona and Karlshamn – are located by the Baltic sea, which creates a special atmosphere.
Halmstad University prepares people for the future by creating values, driving innovation and developing society. Since 1983, the University has been characterised as forward-thinking and cross-border.
The research at Halmstad University is internationally renowned and is pursued in interdisciplinary innovation and research environments. Halmstad University conducts education and research within two profile areas, Health Innovation and Smart Cities and Communities, with a basis in three prominent doctoral education areas: Information Technology, Innovation Sciences, and Health and Lifestyle.
Kristianstad University
Kristianstad University was founded in 1977, but we can trace our roots back to 1835 and the start of the teacher’s training.
Our research is challenge-driven and integrated with our degree programmes. The Business Administration programmes, the Study Programme in Oral Health, the Master programme in Psychology and the Food and Meal Sciences programme have been classified as best in Sweden by the Swedish Higher Education Authority. We are the only Swedish university that offers work integrated education in all our undergraduate programmes.
Lärosäten Syd Brussels Office
The Brussels office works to increase the profile of the universities at EU level, to improve the monitoring and influencing of EU policy and programmes and to support the building of closer European and international partnerships. The overall goal is to support an increased participation in EU programmes, in particular the EU Framework Programme.
The Brussels office consists of two Brussels representatives and EU Policy Officers.
